Interventions
The below list constitutes a working inventory of interventions and strategies that we have identified that have been proposed as tools to make research funding processes more inclusive and transparent. We would greatly appeciate input and feedback if you know of any other interventions, whether they are loose ideas, strategies discussed in papers or already implemented projects. - Increasing the forms of support academics need to attend conferences (for networking)
- Mentoring scheme
- Standardising a workload allocation model at Cambridge
- Rolling deadlines (always possible to submit & assessments made 1-3x per year) / deadlines that don’t conflict with end of school holidays, religious holidays, etc.
- Better single central repository for funding opportunities
- Awards based on lottery (applicants must cross eligibility threshold)
- Assessors receive training on how to account for structural inequalities
- UKRI to use SNS net academic age
- Better representation of protected characteristics on assessment panel
