NRF (Singapore) Intra-CREATE Thematic Grant Call

The Singapore National Research Foundation (NRF) has launched the Intra-CREATE (Campus for Research Excellence and Technological Enterprise) Thematic Grant Call for funding cutting-edge collaborative research projects at CREATE on topics of relevance to Singapore.

The Cambridge Centre for Advanced Research and Education in Singapore (CARES) is the University of Cambridge’s first overseas research centre, based at CREATE in Singapore.

The current research programmes at CARES bring together researchers from the University of Cambridge, Nanyang Technological University, National University of Singapore and the University of Berkeley to work on problems relevant to Singapore and the world at large. Cambridge CARES is funded by the Singapore government’s National Research Foundation (NRF) through its Campus for Research Excellence and Technological Enterprise (CREATE).

Award and eligibility

  • The Theme for this 2019 Call 02 is ‘Intersection of Engineering and Health’. Research into the application of engineering science, principles and philosophies to challenges of human health. All proposals that are demonstrably at the intersection of engineering and health will be considered. Please see Annex A of the Call Application Guidelines Attached for further details.
  • Each award will support up to SGD5 million (~£2.9 million) per proposal (inclusive of all chargeable direct and indirect costs) over a 3-year period.
  • Each application needs two Lead PIs (one should be a University of Cambridge faculty member with PI status in Cambridge and the second one may be from any of the eligible institutions listed in the guidance notes)
  • All PIs from non-Singapore based Universities need to confirm (at the expression of interest stage) that they are willing to complete residency in Singapore of 20% of the grant length of 3 years (i.e. 7 months) and can do so in blocks of 4+ weeks duration
  • Grant awards will be selected through a three-stage process
    • University Internal Selection: Expressions of Interest shortlisting by the University of Cambridge Restricted Bids Committee and CARES
    • Whitepapers: Shortlisting by the CREATE Scientific Advisory Board (SAB)
    • Full Proposals (by invitation only): Evaluation by international peer reviewers and the CREATE Scientific Advisory Board

Further information (including details on scope, eligibility, deadlines and assessment criteria) can be found in the Information for Applicants and Whitepaper template, which can be obtained by emailing researchstrategy@admin.cam.ac.uk.

University Internal Selection

  • applications hosted by CARES

    AND
  • applications hosted by others and involving CARES/University of Cambridge personnel
