HEFCE introduced impact in the 2014 REF for the first time, where it accounted for 20% of the assessment (and worth, therefore, of the order of £100M to the University).  Impact is almost certain to be an element in the next REF and if anything its proportion of the assessment will increase rather than decrease. It is thus essential that impact relating to our research is recorded, and this should be done as it occurs.
